Cloudy pool water can be caused by a number of factors, the most common are:

  • Incorrect water balance.
  • Large amounts of debris that have washed in or blown into the pool.
  • High amounts of oxidized material, usually occurring after shock treatment or super chlorination.
  • Problems associated with filtration and water turn over.

  • Extreme cloudiness causing inability to swim
  • Discomfort and skin irritation.
  • Sore / red eyes.
  • Potential warning sign of the pool going green.

 

How do I prevent cloudy swimming pool water.

  • Having your water tested on a weekly to fortnightly bases can eliminate the notion of cloudy pool water. Cloudy pool water is generally a warning sign for a chemical imbalance and possible turning (going green).>/li>
  • Make sure that your pump and filtration is running for at least 8 hours a day over summer (some pools might require more or less depended on size).
  • If the pH and sanitizer are in acceptable levels, a light grade clarifier might be required.
  • When automatic pool cleaners (Baracuda or Kreepy Krauly) are attached to the pool for long periods of time this can cause stagnant water and algae growth. It is best to remove the vacuum plate from the pool for a day or so and broom the swimming pool to remove any algae growth on the surface / finish of the pool.
